Head-On Collision Between Two Buses in Pabna Claims Two Lives

A tragic head-on collision between two passenger buses on the Pabna–Dhaka Highway in Sholabaria, Sathia Upazila, on Tuesday morning (10 February) has left two people dead and at least ten others injured. The accident occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m. on the Sholabaria Bridge.

Mustafizar Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Madhpur Highway Police, confirmed the incident. According to police and local sources, a bus operated by Shahjadpur Travels was travelling from Pabna to Dhaka when it collided head-on with a bus from Machranga Paribahan coming from the opposite direction.

Initial reports indicate that one person died at the scene, while the injured were immediately transported to nearby hospitals. A second victim succumbed to injuries after being admitted. The deceased include the driver of the Shahjadpur Travels bus and the helper of the Machranga Paribahan vehicle. Among the injured, seven to eight people sustained serious injuries requiring hospitalisation.

Local residents reported that the accident caused traffic to halt for over an hour, resulting in significant congestion. Police and rescue teams arrived promptly, providing first aid, clearing the scene, and restoring traffic flow.

Authorities have noted a worrying rise in head-on collisions along the Pabna highways in recent months. Particularly hazardous are the Sholabaria Bridge and several winding stretches of the road, where insufficient caution and reckless driving have been identified as primary contributing factors.
