Head-On Collision in Chandanaish Injures Bus Driver, Assistant

A serious traffic collision occurred on the Chittagong–Cox’s Bazar highway in the Bagichahat area of Chandanaish early on Saturday morning, leaving a bus driver and his assistant injured. The incident took place at approximately 10:30 AM when a passenger bus operated by Eagle Transport collided head-on with a pickup van.

According to police reports and eyewitness accounts, the bus had departed from Chittagong en route to Cox’s Bazar when the collision occurred. The impact caused the pickup van to overturn, while the front of the bus suffered substantial damage. Despite the severity of the crash, passengers aboard the bus escaped without serious injury, thanks to quick response and prompt safety measures.

The injured bus driver and his assistant were immediately admitted to a nearby private medical centre, where they are receiving treatment. Eyewitnesses noted that the bus was travelling at a relatively high speed at the time of the accident; however, the rapid intervention by onlookers and emergency responders prevented any casualties among passengers.

Dohazari Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Salah Uddin Chowdhury told First Light that both vehicles involved in the collision had been impounded. “We have launched a full investigation to determine the precise cause of the accident,” he said. He added that traffic congestion and the prevalence of high-speed vehicles along the Chittagong–Cox’s Bazar highway frequently contribute to such incidents.

Local residents have voiced concerns over the hazardous conditions along Bagichahat and surrounding areas, citing densely populated settlements and commercial zones that increase traffic risks. Many points along the highway lack adequate traffic signs and control measures, raising the potential for accidents. Authorities have urged drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution, particularly near schools, colleges, and busy marketplaces.
