In a major disciplinary action, the headteacher of Khepupura Girls’ Secondary School in Kalapara, Patuakhali, Md. Anwar Hossain, has been temporarily suspended following the circulation of a video depicting indecent and unethical behaviour on social media.
The suspension order was issued late on Sunday, 15 March, signed by Kalapara Upazila Executive Officer Kawsar Hamid. The directive cites serious concerns regarding morality, social ethics, and public reaction within the local community, including students, parents, and teaching staff.
According to the official statement, the video first appeared online on 11 March, depicting actions deemed to contravene societal norms, professional ethics, and decency. The report also indicates that Mr Hossain faces separate allegations of financial irregularities, misuse of authority, and misconduct. These complaints prompted the local education authorities and governing bodies to intervene swiftly.
The suspension follows guidelines set forth by the Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Barishal, and the Private Educational Institutions Governing Body and Managing Committee Regulations, 2024, specifically Section 54(1). While suspended, Mr Hossain will continue to receive his subsistence allowance.
During the suspension period, administrative duties at Khepupura Girls’ Secondary School will be overseen by Senior Assistant Teacher and Acting Deputy Head, Mohammad Mohsin Reza, who has been appointed as the Acting Headteacher to ensure the continuity of academic and administrative activities.
The incident has sparked significant debate within the local community regarding accountability, professional ethics in education, and the role of social media in exposing misconduct. Education experts emphasise the need for stricter monitoring of staff behaviour and adherence to codes of conduct to maintain public trust in educational institutions.
