Amid a recent surge in dengue fever cases and deaths transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has expressed serious concern and issued urgent directives for hospitals.
On Tuesday, 16 September, Dr. Abu Hosen Md. Moinul Ahsan, Director (Hospitals & Clinics) of the DGHS, formally released these instructions.
The directives include the following 11 urgent measures:

| 1 | NS1 Testing | All dengue patients must undergo NS1 testing urgently. Government hospitals are instructed to coordinate with CMSD or CDC to obtain NS1/antigen kits. |
| 2 | In-Hospital Testing | Necessary laboratory and radiology tests for admitted patients must be arranged within 24 hours at the hospital. |
| 3 | Medicine Supply | All required medicines should be supplied from the hospital inventory. |
| 4 | Patient Isolation | All dengue patients must be kept in single wards, corners, rooms, or designated areas. |
| 5 | Dedicated Medical Teams | A specialised dengue-chikungunya medical team should be formed comprising: – 1 Professor – 2 Associate Professors – 5 Assistant Professors / Junior Consultants / Specialists (Medicine, Paediatrics, etc.) on 24-hour roster duty – 10 Medical Officers (Residency / Honorary Trainees) – Nurses as required, plus 1 nurse for data management |
| 6 | Outpatient Designation | A separate room/area should be allocated in outpatient departments for dengue and chikungunya patients. |
| 7 | ICU Prioritisation | Priority should be given to dengue patients in ICU and hospital admissions. |
| 8 | Mortality Reporting | Death reports must be sent within 6 hours via mobile message and email to both the Hospital Director and DGHS/CDC Director. |
| 9 | Mosquito Control | Hospital Directors must issue letters to City Corporations / Municipalities to conduct mosquito eradication and cleanliness drives around hospital premises. |
| 10 | Implementation in Other Hospitals | Other medical college hospitals may implement these guidelines as needed. |
| 11 | Weekly Coordination Meetings | Dengue coordination meetings must be held every Saturday morning, chaired by the Hospital Director, to take necessary decisions. |
