High Court Orders Inclusion of Blood Groups and Parents’ Phone Numbers on Students’ ID Cards

The High Court (HC) has directed the authorities to implement necessary measures for including blood groups and parents’ phone numbers on students’ identity cards. This order came from a division bench consisting of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Sayed Jahed Mansur, following the hearing of a writ petition on the matter.

Directives from the High Court:

Blood Groups & Parent’s Phone Numbers on IDs:
The Court has instructed the authorities to ensure that students’ identity cards include essential information, such as blood groups and contact details of parents. This measure is expected to enhance safety and quick response in case of emergencies.

Formation of Expert Committee on Fighter Jet Crash:
In light of the tragic fighter jet crash that occurred at Milestone School and College in Uttara on Monday afternoon, the High Court has also ordered the formation of a high-powered expert committee. This committee will be tasked with investigating the root cause of the huge casualties resulting from the crash. The committee is expected to submit a detailed report within 45 days and must be formed within the next seven days.

Financial Compensation for Victims:
The High Court issued a rule to the authorities, asking them to explain why they should not be directed to provide Taka 5 crore to the families of each deceased victim and Taka 1 crore to each injured person from the fighter jet crash. The court also sought an explanation on why it should not order the provision of adequate treatment for the injured, both domestically and abroad.

The petition was filed by Supreme Court Lawyer AR Raihan, seeking to ensure accountability and further protections for students, while also addressing the severe aftermath of the fighter jet crash.

Background of the Fighter Jet Crash Incident:

On Monday, a Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) FT-7 BGI fighter jet tragically crashed into a building of Milestone School and College located in Uttara, resulting in significant casualties. The crash claimed the lives of 31 individuals, including 25 children, a pilot, and a teacher, while 165 people sustained injuries, many of whom are still undergoing treatment in various hospitals across the capital.

The High Court’s directives, particularly regarding financial compensation, reflect the serious nature of the incident, emphasising the need for a thorough investigation and immediate relief for the victims and their families.
