The Central Student Council (GOCSU) election at Gono Bishwabidyalay, Savar, Dhaka is scheduled to take place today. A total of 4,761 voters are eligible to cast their ballots in this election.

Voting Schedule and Arrangements

  • Date & Time: Thursday, 25 September, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
  • Number of Polling Centres: 19
  • Campus Preparations: The university administration has implemented extensive security measures across the 32-acre campus. Students have expressed enthusiasm at the opportunity to vote.

Election Campaign

  • Election campaigns concluded on Tuesday at 6:00 pm.
  • In the final days, candidates engaged in innovative campaign methods, including departmental outreach, musical performances, and distinctive campaign materials to garner support.
  • Voters received the candidates’ campaigns enthusiastically.

  • All candidates have undergone doping tests; those testing positive will have their candidacy cancelled.

Security Measures

  • 350 security personnel will be deployed, including police, RAB, Ansar, and NSI.
  • Armed forces will act as a striking force.
  • A Quick Response Team (QRT) has been established.
  • CCTV cameras will be installed at polling centres, allowing live monitoring on large screens by students and relevant authorities.

Election Process

Dr. Fuad Hossain, spokesperson for the Election Commission, stated:
"Out of the 13 phases of the election schedule, 11 have been successfully completed. Only the voting and result announcement phases remain."

University Statement

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Abul Hossain, said:
"As the only private university in the country with a student council, this election provides an opportunity to create national-level student leadership through a free, fair, and inclusive process."

Historical Context

  • GOCSU at Gono Bishwabidyalay is the only student council among private universities in Bangladesh.
  • The first election was held in 2013.
  • The third executive council was formed through direct voting in 2018, but due to administrative complications, it could not complete its term.
  • In December 2020, the council was officially dissolved, leaving GOBSU inactive for five years.
  • Today’s election marks the fourth council election at the university.

This election is anticipated to restore active student representation and strengthen participatory governance within Gono Bishwabidyalay.
