Parents often complain that their children don’t want to study, eat, or listen to them. While naughtiness is common in childhood, the situation is different for today’s Gen Alpha kids. Most of them spend excessive time staring at mobile screens.
Watching reels, playing games, or cartoons—everything now revolves around mobile phones. This addiction is making children stubborn and inattentive while reducing their physical activity, which is harmful to their health. To help children break free from screen addiction, certain lifestyle changes are essential. Here are some useful tips—
Stay Away from Your Own Phone
Avoid using your mobile phone when spending time with your child. Talk, play, or do activities together without distractions. When you stay away from your phone, your child will naturally follow your example.
Engage Them in Indoor Games
When children are involved in games, they tend to avoid screens. If outdoor play isn’t possible, introduce board games, puzzles, building blocks, or drawing materials. Encourage them to read storybooks, color, or do creative work. This will help them forget screens naturally.
No Mobile During Meals
Many parents hand over a mobile phone to their children while feeding them. But this habit is harmful. It diverts their attention from food and reduces interest in eating. Instead, make mealtime fun by sharing stories together as a family.
Reduce Screen Time Gradually
Do not abruptly take away the TV or mobile. Doing so might make children more stubborn. Instead, reduce screen time gradually by setting specific time limits for watching. Consistently maintaining these limits helps reduce addiction and establish a healthy routine.
