Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi has recently shared her views on sexual harassment, feminism, and respect for women in the industry in an insightful interview. The actress, who is currently being lauded for her performances in Maharani Season 4 and Delhi Crime Season 3, firmly stated that it is high time for men to stop commenting on women’s appearances, clothing, and weight. According to Huma, just as women face consequences for harassment in public spaces, the same rules should apply in the online world.
Huma, during her conversation with The Mail Feminist, highlighted the rampant negativity on social media, where people, especially women, face unwarranted comments on their photos and posts. “Social media is where most people share personal updates, but often we have to endure cruel comments from critics,” Huma said. “It’s frustrating and, frankly, disheartening. But instead of staying silent, I’ve decided to speak up about it.”
She continued, “Many women post bikini pictures on social media, myself included. And yet, when we do, there are always comments like ‘What are you doing?’ These comments are not only annoying but also distressing. I believe that if women face punishment for comments made about their appearance in public, the same should apply online.”
The actress further urged, “Stop making remarks about what women wear, how they look, or when they return home at night. My only plea to everyone is to cease these judgments. Sexual harassment, in any form, is a deeply condemnable act, and those responsible must face the consequences.”
In addition to her stance on harassment, Huma has recently been at the centre of rumours about her love life. It is said that she has fallen for Rachit Singh, an acting coach who has worked with several Bollywood actresses. Although the actress has not officially confirmed the relationship, she was seen wearing a matching outfit with Rachit at Sonakshi Sinha’s reception, sparking further speculation.
Huma rose to fame in 2012 with her role in Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur: Part 2. Since then, she has appeared in multiple successful projects, including Maharani Season 4 and Delhi Crime 3. She also played a police officer in the film Bayan, which was showcased at the Toronto International Film Festival.
