Huma’s Parents Initially Thought Their Daughter Had Fallen Into the Hands of Sex Traffickers

Recently, actress Huma Qureshi has been seen playing pivotal roles in the new seasons of Maharani and Delhi Crime. Over the past few years, she has firmly established herself in the OTT and film industries. However, her journey in Bollywood wasn’t an easy one. In a recent interview, she revealed a story from the early days of her career. She shared that when she made her debut in Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), her parents could hardly believe it.

In an interview with Mid-Day, Huma said, “My parents didn’t believe it at first. They thought, why would anyone want to cast me in a film? They thought it might be part of some sex trafficking ring. They were absolutely sure of it. They thought the whole thing was suspicious.”

Reflecting on it, Huma continued, “Looking back now, I realise they didn’t trust me at all. They couldn’t believe I would make the right decision for myself. I understand though, because they were not from this industry. Even now, they don’t fully understand how this world works.”

Her First Audition Experience
Huma also shared her first audition experience, recalling that although her first film never materialised, the experience gave her the courage to move to Mumbai. “I went to the office, read the script, and the next day there was a screen test. By that afternoon, they told me I was selected. But the film was never made, which was unfortunate. However, I knew that if I changed cities, I might get another opportunity because I had something to offer. It was then that I had to convince my parents,” she added.

Today, Huma Qureshi has several major projects lined up. She stars as the ‘Badi Didi’ in Delhi Crime 3 and will be seen in the film Boyan, where she plays a police officer. The film was showcased at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
