Husband’s Face Severely Burned in Acid Attack by Second Wife

In Chandpur, a day laborer named Abdul Jalil (45) was severely burned in an acid attack reportedly carried out by his second wife. Following the incident, his wife, Marzina Begum, fled from her husband’s house. The incident occurred early Saturday morning (25 October) near Madina Bazar in the Madna area of Sadar Upazila.

Jalil, who suffered severe burns on his face, neck, and throat, was initially admitted to Chandpur General Hospital. Later, for advanced treatment, he was referred to the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka.

Dr. Syed Ahmed Kajol of Chandpur General Hospital said, “The patient’s face, especially the area around both eyes, has been severely burned. Given the severity, he was sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment. It is believed that the incident was caused by acid or another corrosive substance.”

The injured Abdul Jalil stated that he often quarreled with his second wife, Marzina Begum, over suspicions that she was in contact with his first wife. The two argued again on Friday night. Later, when he fell asleep, his wife allegedly threw acid on his face and quickly fled the house in the early morning.

Local UP member Alamgir Hossain said, “Upon hearing about the incident, with the help of village police, we admitted the injured Jalil to the hospital. However, as of Saturday evening, none of his relatives had come to check on him.”

Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Bahar Mia of Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station said, “We learned about the incident from the UP member and village police. So far, no one has filed a written complaint. Appropriate action will be taken once a complaint is received.”
