A chilling act of domestic violence has left the garment-working community of Gazipur in shock after a man allegedly strangled his wife to death before callously informing his father-in-law of the murder. The victim, identified as 28-year-old Mastura Akter Suma, was found dead in her rented apartment on Friday morning. Her husband, Jalal Uddin Dulu, reportedly fled the scene after making a phone call to the victim’s father, Mirajul Islam, stating: “I have killed your daughter. Her body is in the room; come and take it away.”
The incident occurred at Haji Market in the Chandna area of Gazipur Metropolitan’s Ward 17. Both Suma and Dulu were employees at the Tex Euro BD garment factory and resided on the third floor of ‘Ramiz Villa’. According to neighbours and police reports, Suma had returned from her shift at approximately 10:00 pm on Thursday to prepare dinner. Her husband arrived home around midnight. Investigators believe a heated domestic dispute erupted shortly thereafter, during which Dulu allegedly strangled Suma to death.
The grim discovery was made after Dulu placed the predatory phone call to his father-in-law at approximately 7:30 am on Friday. Panic-stricken, Mirajul Islam alerted relatives living nearby. Upon reaching the flat, they found the door padlocked from the outside. Basan Police arrived shortly after and broke the lock to find Suma’s lifeless body concealed under a blanket on the bed.
