I Will Tell Only You – Sanjib Chowdhury

Sanjib Chowdhury was a luminous figure in the world of Bengali music and journalism. He was one of the founding members of the popular Bengali band Dalchhut, as well as a lyricist, composer, and vocalist. Through four albums, he expressed his artistic identity and created countless heart-touching songs that continue to resonate with listeners.

He was born on 25 December 1964 in Makalkandi, Baniachang Upazila, Habiganj, to Gopal Chowdhury and Prabhashini Chowdhury, the seventh of nine children. In his early years, he studied up to the eighth grade at Habiganj Government High School before moving to Dhaka. Enrolling at Nabakumar Institute, he ranked 12th in the merit list of his secondary examinations in 1978. In 1980, he also earned a place in the merit list for his higher secondary exams at Dhaka College.

Though initially admitted to the Mathematics Department at Dhaka University, he ultimately completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mass Communication and Journalism. Alongside his studies, he nurtured his writing and creative talents.

As a journalist, he earned equal respect. Working at leading newspapers such as Ajker Kagoj, Bhorer Kagoj, and Jaijaidin, he established himself as a strong and principled journalist. From opposing autocratic regimes to fighting communalism, Sanjib Chowdhury was always a courageous voice for justice.

On 19 November 2007, he passed away at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka at the age of just 42. His songs, ideals, and humanity remain indelibly alive in the hearts of his admirers.

In the sky of Bengali music and journalism, Sanjib Chowdhury shines as an unforgettable star—whose light will guide our path for many years.
