Emerging from the underground music scene of Copenhagen, Denmark, Melody Gazal is poised to make a remarkable impression with her debut full-length album, Idol Meldis. Scheduled for release on 6 March 2026 under the Anyines label, the album has already garnered significant anticipation among critics and early listeners alike, praised for its multi-dimensional yet introspective soundscapes.
A graduate of the prestigious Rhythmic Music Conservatory (RMC), Gazal has established herself as a prominent voice in contemporary Danish music. She seamlessly integrates the rich melodic traditions of her Iranian heritage with the vibrant pop sensibilities of the 1980s, crafting compositions that are both deeply personal and stylistically diverse. Her lead single, “Numb,” exemplifies this approach, blending meditative vocals with major-key guitar arrangements to create a reflective and immersive auditory experience. The track narrates a period of personal transformation, exploring questions of identity and the complexities of human relationships.
Gazal explains, “My guitarist, Peter Bruhn, sent me a beautiful major-folk guitar progression. I began singing along instinctively, and the melodies quickly deepened. The song evolved into a meditation—observing life from a distance and asking myself: ‘Who am I now? Numb?’” Notably, portions of the song are sung in Farsi, highlighting nuanced emotions and fostering a sense of intimate human connection.
Born in Copenhagen to Iranian parents, Gazal was exposed to music from a young age. Early influences ranged from pre-revolution Iranian pop hits to 1980s and 1990s Los Angeles pop, as well as VH1 and MTV favourites such as Dido and Celine Dion. Encouraged by her mother, she learned piano, though her musical journey paused for over a decade due to personal reflection and external pressures.
Returning to music through RMC, Gazal began creating Idol Meldis through various collaborations. Initial drum sketches, developed as part of her conservatory thesis, eventually evolved into the album’s foundational sound.
The following table summarises key contributors to Idol Meldis:
| Contributor | Role |
|---|---|
| Melody Gazal | Vocals, songwriting |
| Peter Bruhn Rasmussen | Electric guitar |
| Albert Harz | Acoustic guitar |
| Vilads Klint (Minais B) | Production, collaboration |
| Kobi C | Production, collaboration |

Enriched with Middle Eastern percussion, English–Farsi vocals, and Sufi-inspired rhythmic motifs, Idol Meldis presents a deeply introspective musical journey. The album translates personal struggles, heartbreak, and self-development into captivating sonic landscapes, establishing Melody Gazal as a distinct and compelling voice in contemporary music.
