IFIC Bank Leads Digital Finance Drive in Jessore

In a decisive step towards modernising the nation’s financial landscape, a comprehensive day-long campaign was launched in Jessore to bolster the ‘Cashless Bangladesh’ initiative. Spearheaded by the Bangladesh Bank and coordinated by IFIC Bank PLC in its capacity as the “Lead Bank” for the region, the event sought to accelerate the transition from a cash-dependent society to a digital-first economy. The proceedings were held on Tuesday, 23rd December, at the prestigious Software Technology Park in Jessore, drawing a significant crowd of financial experts, local dignitaries, and members of the public.

The programme commenced with an energetic public awareness rally that wound through the heart of Jessore, designed to pique the interest of local citizens and small-business owners. Following the march, a high-level seminar was convened to discuss the strategic roadmap for digital integration. Arif Hossain Khan, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank, graced the occasion as the chief guest, underscoring the central bank’s commitment to ensuring that even regional hubs like Jessore are at the forefront of the technological revolution.

The seminar, presided over by Rafeza Akhter Kanta, Director of the Payment Systems Department at Bangladesh Bank, served as a platform for transparency and education. Speakers highlighted the numerous benefits of digital transactions, including enhanced security, reduced reliance on physical currency, and the ease of record-keeping for small enterprises. A lively question-and-answer session allowed attendees to voice concerns regarding cybersecurity and accessibility, which were addressed by the panel of experts.

Distinguished Guests and Key Leadership

The event was supported by a robust contingent of financial leaders and administrative officials who provided insights into the operational challenges and successes of digital banking in the Khulna division.

Practical Demonstrations and Outreach

To bridge the gap between theory and practice, participating banks established dedicated kiosks throughout the Software Technology Park. Here, bank officials provided hands-on demonstrations of Quick Response (QR) code payment systems. This interactive component was vital in demystifying the technology for everyday users, showing how a simple smartphone scan could replace the need for physical wallets.

By focusing on Jessore’s burgeoning tech scene, the IFIC-led initiative aims to create a ripple effect throughout the southwestern districts of Bangladesh. The organisers emphasised that a “Cashless Bangladesh” is not merely a convenience but a necessity for financial inclusion and the reduction of grey-market activities. Senior officials from various commercial banks concluded the day by reaffirming their commitment to expanding digital infrastructure in rural and semi-urban areas.
