The 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) got underway in Lahore with a notable Bangladeshi presence, as Parvez Hossain Imon made his tournament debut while Mustafizur Rahman returned to the competition after an eight-year absence.
The opening match of the season, staged at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium, featured defending champions Lahore Qalandars against debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen. Beyond the result, the fixture carried significant interest for Bangladesh cricket, with two national players featuring in the Lahore XI.
Left-handed batter Parvez Hossain Imon marked his first appearance in the PSL, becoming the ninth Bangladeshi cricketer to feature in the franchise-based tournament. Representing Lahore Qalandars, Imon was promoted to number four in the batting order but could not fully capitalise on the opportunity, scoring 14 runs off 13 deliveries, including a solitary six, before being dismissed.
Despite a modest debut, his inclusion is seen as a significant step in his development, as exposure to high-intensity franchise cricket continues to shape emerging players from Bangladesh.
Imon’s teammate Mustafizur Rahman also attracted attention as he made his long-awaited return to the PSL after eight years. The left-arm pacer last featured in the tournament in 2018, when he also represented Lahore Qalandars.
Nicknamed the “Cutter Master”, Mustafizur’s comeback adds considerable experience to Lahore’s bowling attack. His variations and death-over expertise are expected to play a crucial role throughout the tournament.
This season features a strong Bangladeshi contingent across multiple franchises, with six players signed by three different teams. While some are yet to make their mark, the increased participation highlights the growing demand for Bangladeshi talent in franchise cricket.

Several other Bangladeshi cricketers have featured in previous PSL seasons, including Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Enamul Haque Bijoy, Sabbir Rahman, and Rishad Hossain. Last season, Nahid Rana and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were part of Lahore Qalandars’ squad, while Litton Das was signed by Karachi Kings but missed out due to injury.
In the tournament opener, Lahore Qalandars elected to bat first after winning the toss. The defending champions posted a commanding total of 200 runs, powered by a fluent half-century from Fakhar Zaman and explosive contributions from Sikandar Raza and Shaheen Afridi in the latter stages of the innings.
The strong finish ensured Hyderabad Kingsmen were set a challenging target under lights in Lahore. Mustafizur Rahman was expected to take the ball shortly after the innings break, with fans anticipating his trademark cutters and variations in PSL conditions.
The match is being broadcast live on T Sports, allowing viewers in Bangladesh to follow the performances of their national cricketers closely.
As PSL 11 begins, Bangladesh’s growing representation across franchises adds an extra layer of interest, with Imon seeking to establish himself and Mustafizur aiming to reaffirm his status as one of the league’s most effective pace bowlers.
