In a shocking overnight incident in Alfadanga, Faridpur, a local BNP leader, Saiful Sardar, also known as Saifel, aged 47, was killed after attackers posing as police stormed his home. One individual has reportedly been arrested in connection with the attack.
The violent episode occurred late on Thursday night (25 December) in the Brahman Jatigram area of Sadar Union, Alfadanga. Saiful Sardar, the son of the late Hobi Sardar, was a respected figure in the community and served as the cultural and literary affairs secretary for the Sadar Union branch of the BNP. He was primarily engaged in agriculture. Another resident, identified as Ismail Molya, sustained serious injuries during the assault and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Local law enforcement and community sources indicate that the attack stems from a long-standing rivalry between two influential local factions, the Tuhin Group and the Jewel Group, who have been competing for dominance in the area for years. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the assailants, disguising themselves as police officers, launched a premeditated strike against Saiful Sardar, a known supporter of the Tuhin Group. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
This incident has heightened tensions in the region, raising concerns about political violence and the use of deceptive tactics such as impersonation of law enforcement officers. Local authorities have pledged a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure community safety.
