Over the past 24 hours, Israeli forces have further extended their occupation in the eastern Gaza Strip, intensifying pressure on local Palestinian communities. In Gaza City, the districts of Tuffah, Shujaiya, and Zeitoun have borne the brunt of the expansion, forcing residents into increasingly cramped conditions.
Field reports from Al Jazeera indicate that Israeli operations have now reached the vicinity of the strategically significant Salah al-Din Road. Displaced families seeking refuge along this corridor are being compelled to abandon their temporary shelters. Current estimates suggest that Israeli forces now control more than 50% of Gaza’s territory, effectively restricting civilian movement and access to essential services.
Despite a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States on 10 October, daily violations continue unabated. Since the agreement came into effect, Israeli assaults have reportedly resulted in at least 414 Palestinian fatalities and 1,145 injuries. Analysts note that the primary objective of expanding the so-called “Yellow Line”—Israel’s delineation of occupied territory—is to seize additional eastern areas and further diminish safe spaces for civilians. Residents of Zeitoun, Shujaiya, and Tuffah remain unable to return to their homes, causing surrounding districts to experience population surges of two to three times their normal density.
Intensifying hostilities have been reported throughout the region. Drones and explosions were heard consistently from Monday night into Tuesday, particularly over southern Gaza. In Rafah and the northern and eastern sectors of Khan Yunis, artillery shells and helicopter strikes have targeted various positions.
Casualties and Arrests
In a separate incident in Khan Yunis on Sunday, at least three Palestinians were killed by Israeli gunfire. Among the deceased were a 15-year-old boy and a fisherman, with one of the victims shot in an area now outside Israeli control. Additional fatalities occurred in Israeli-controlled sectors of the city’s eastern district. The Israeli military has not issued immediate comments on these incidents.
Meanwhile, operations in the West Bank have resulted in the arrest of approximately 30 Palestinians, including journalists and minors. Notable detentions include Inas Ikhlawi in Idhna, a 15-year-old boy, Yazan al-Aloul, near Nur Shams refugee camp, and over 25 individuals from Aida refugee camp north of Bethlehem. Residents report that these raids often involve house searches and intimidation tactics. Similar operations have been reported in Qalqilya, Ramallah, and Tubas, with night-time incursions remaining routine.
