India has decided to send five Bangladeshi students back to their home country following allegations of involvement in violent incidents on campus. The students were enrolled at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Silchar, located in the northeastern state of Assam.
These students were in their third year of an undergraduate honours programme under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarship at NIT Silchar.
According to eyewitnesses and campus sources cited by NDTV, a conflict broke out among Bangladeshi students at the institute. The five students reportedly carried out violent attacks during the altercation, using rods, knives, and screwdrivers against fourth-year Bangladeshi students.
Several of the senior students were seriously injured, with at least two in critical condition.

To ensure that the students cannot remain in India during the suspension period, the authorities decided to deport them to Bangladesh.
This measure comes as part of the institute’s effort to maintain safety and discipline on campus, particularly in cases involving international students.
