Indian Singer Neha Singh Rathore Faces Legal Trouble for Questioning Modi

Indian Bhojpuri singer Neha Singh Rathore has found herself in legal difficulties after raising questions about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Last Friday (6 December), the Allahabad High Court rejected her plea for anticipatory bail. Consequently, she could be arrested at any moment.

The Allahabad High Court of Uttar Pradesh dismissed Neha’s anticipatory bail request. The matter stems from her comments holding the Prime Minister and central government responsible for the attack on tourists in Pahalgam. Her remarks have resulted in multiple cases filed against her in various parts of Lucknow. Seeking protection from this legal entanglement, Neha had approached the court for anticipatory bail.

In April this year, following the Pahalgam attack on tourists, Neha had held the central government accountable for the lapse in security. She had questioned, “What should I ask the government? Education and health are no longer priorities. At a time when nationalist politics and Hindu-Muslim divisions are at their peak, people are losing their lives. Should I go and question Muhammad Ali Jinnah instead of the government? The central government is religion-influenced. The country is being run on the basis of caste and religion.”

Defending her statements, Neha claimed that as a citizen of a free nation, she has the right to question the government about security failures. She emphasised that she did not sing any provocative songs, but merely raised pertinent questions. However, the court has left the legal process open by not granting her bail at present.
