A male intern doctor has been taken into police custody at Tangail Medical College Hospital following allegations that he installed a "spy camera" inside a communal washroom used by medical staff. The incident, which unfolded on Monday afternoon, has sparked widespread protests among the hospital’s medical community and led to the immediate suspension of the suspect’s internship.
The controversy began on Sunday when a female intern doctor filed a formal written complaint with the Hospital Director. According to her statement, the discovery was made on Saturday evening while she was on duty in Room 907 of Surgery Unit-1. Upon entering the attached washroom, she noticed a concealed device resembling a "spy pen camera" strategically placed to record occupants.
When the female doctor attempted to leave the room with the device to report it, the accused male intern allegedly confronted her, demanding the camera be returned to him. A physical struggle ensued, during which the female doctor sustained minor hand injuries. She managed to escape the confrontation and sought refuge in an adjacent unit.

The formal complaint further alleged a recurring pattern of predatory behaviour. Colleagues noted that the suspect would frequently intercept female doctors as they headed toward the washroom, insisting on entering first—presumably to plant or retrieve recording equipment. These observations have led other female interns to demand a thorough forensic audit of the hospital’s private staff areas to ensure no other devices remain hidden.
On Monday, the accused intern returned to the hospital to testify before the newly formed five-member investigation committee, headed by Professor Mohammad Abu Hanif. News of his presence triggered a spontaneous and volatile protest by other interns, who surrounded the building demanding immediate justice.
As tensions reached a boiling point, the Detective Branch (DB) moved in to detain the suspect. The situation briefly turned violent as enraged protesters attempted to snatch the accused from police custody, resulting in a scuffle with officers.
ABM Doha, Officer-in-Charge of the District Detective Branch (South), confirmed that the suspect has since been transferred to Tangail Sadar Police Station. The local OC, Ruhul Amin, stated that the individual remains in custody and will be formally arrested once the specific legal charges are filed. The hospital administration has vowed a "zero-tolerance" policy regarding such grave breaches of privacy and professional ethics.
