Since the outbreak of hostilities on 28 February, Iran has launched approximately 430 missiles and drones targeting Saudi territory. Most drone strikes have focused on the eastern region, home to the kingdom’s major oil refineries, while missile attacks have been concentrated on Al-Kharj, about 80 kilometres south of the capital Riyadh, where the Prince Sultan Air Base—hosting U.S. forces—is located.

Despite this sustained campaign, Saudi Arabia has so far refrained from launching direct attacks on Iranian soil. Iranian officials now reportedly believe that Saudi Arabia is “at the threshold of responding,” prompting Tehran to moderate the scale of its operations to avoid a potentially escalatory confrontation.
