Iran has reiterated its readiness to support any effective initiative aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. However, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi insisted that the current war has been “imposed” on Iran and criticised the United States for not being prepared to halt the hostilities.
In an interview with Japanese news agency Kyodo, which was also published by Iran’s state-run Mehr News Agency on Saturday, Araghchi elaborated on Tehran’s position. He stated, “While some countries are attempting to mediate a resolution to the ongoing Middle East conflict, Iran remains open to considering effective proposals for ending the war. Nevertheless, the United States does not appear ready to cease its aggressive actions.”
Araghchi further emphasised that Iran is opposed to any temporary ceasefire. “We are not in favour of short-term measures,” he said. “Iran seeks a definitive and comprehensive resolution that will guarantee long-term stability for the region. Any lasting solution must address the root causes of the conflict and ensure security for all parties involved.”
International observers note that Iran’s stance reflects the complex dynamics of the Middle Eastern conflict, particularly regarding the perceived imbalance of external influence. Despite diplomatic pressures from Western nations, especially the United States, a sustainable solution has yet to emerge.
