Iran is set to construct eight new nuclear power plants with the cooperation of Russia as part of its efforts to expand clean and sustainable energy production, announced Mohammad Eslami, the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI).
Eslami stated that a new agreement has been finalized between the governments of Iran and Russia to jointly build these eight nuclear power plants.
According to him, under this collaboration, four of the power plants will be built in the Bushehr region, while the remaining four will be constructed in different parts of the country. The specific locations will be announced later by the government.
Eslami explained that the goal of the project is to establish nuclear power plants in various regions to ensure a stable and clean source of nuclear energy to meet Iran’s growing electricity demand.
He further noted that there is a need for a nuclear power plant along Iran’s northern coast. After extensive efforts, a project has been initiated in Golestan Province, and a suitable site has already been identified.
The AEOI chief added that, with Russia’s cooperation, the construction of these new power plants will enable Iran to achieve a nuclear power generation capacity of 20,000 megawatts, marking a significant step toward the country’s long-term energy self-sufficiency and sustainable development.
