Ireland Collapse in Just 14 Balls

Ireland’s innings came crashing down on the second morning of the Sylhet Test, lasting a mere 14 balls before Bangladesh wrapped up the visitors for 286 runs.

At stumps on the first day, the Irish coach had optimistically remarked, “We’ll go for 600 if we get the chance.” But that dream vanished quickly as Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling attack picked up the final two wickets within minutes of play resuming, adding only 16 runs to Ireland’s overnight total of 270 for 8.

Taijul and Hasan Finish the Job in Style

Bangladesh struck immediately through Hasan Mahmud and Taijul Islam, both of whom took a wicket apiece in the opening few overs. Ireland began the day with a boundary-filled over from Hasan Mahmud, scoring eight runs, but their resistance didn’t last.

In the very next over, Taijul Islam trapped Matthew Humphreys lbw, and a few deliveries later, Barry McCarthy — who had fought hard for his 31 off 64 balls — was bowled by a brilliant in-swinger from Hasan Mahmud.

Bangladesh’s Bowling Breakdown

Bowler Wickets Runs Overs Economy Key Notes
Mehidy Hasan Miraz 3 50 17 2.94 Most successful bowler
Hasan Mahmud 2 45 12 3.75 Wrapped up the innings
Taijul Islam 2 55 20 2.75 Early morning breakthrough
Hasan Murad 2 60 15 4.00 Middle-order threat
Nahid Rana 1 45 10 4.50 Removed Sterling

Ireland’s Batting Summary

Batter Runs Balls Fours Sixes
Paul Stirling 60 90 8 1
Cade Carmichael 59 105 7 0
Curtis Campher 44 70 5 1
Lorcan Tucker 41 62 4 0
Barry McCarthy 31 64 3 0

Despite half-centuries from Paul Stirling and Cade Carmichael, Ireland failed to capitalise on their solid foundation. Their tail offered little resistance as Bangladesh’s bowlers struck with precision and patience.

With the first innings wrapped up swiftly, Bangladesh now hold the upper hand in the Sylhet Test. Their batting response will determine whether they can convert this early advantage into a commanding position in the match.
