The military situation in Southern Lebanon has escalated significantly following a series of intensive air strikes, heavy artillery fire, and the deployment of controversial incendiary munitions by Israeli forces. According to reports from Lebanon’s state-owned National News Agency (NNA), the intensified bombardment has resulted in a deteriorating humanitarian situation across several border districts.
The NNA confirmed that at least five individuals have been killed in recent strikes targeting the towns of Bazouriyeh, Nabatieh al-Fawqa, Sir al-Gharbiyeh, and Choukine. The city of Bint Jbeil has been identified as a primary focal point of the offensive, subjected to sustained and continuous assaults over an extended period.
In the Tyre District, the scale of military activity has seen a marked increase. Fresh air raids were documented in Majdal Zoun and Bayt Al-Sayyad. Concurrently, heavy artillery shelling has struck the municipalities of Al-Haniya, Al-Qalila, Al-Mansouri, and additional sectors of Bayt Al-Sayyad. These operations have disrupted civilian life and caused significant damage to local infrastructure.
Of particular concern are reports from the town of Zibqin, located within the Tyre District. Information provided by the NNA indicates that Israeli forces utilised phosphorus shells alongside conventional artillery. White phosphorus is an incendiary substance that ignites upon contact with oxygen, producing high-temperature heat and dense white smoke.
While its use for signalling or smoke-screening is not prohibited under international law, its deployment as an incendiary weapon in civilian-populated areas is strictly regulated and widely condemned by human rights organisations due to the severe, deep-tissue burns and respiratory damage it inflicts.
The following table outlines the specific areas targeted and the nature of the military actions reported:
| Location | District | Type of Military Action | Reported Impact |
| Bazouriyeh | Tyre | Air Strikes | Fatalities reported |
| Nabatieh al-Fawqa | Nabatieh | Air Strikes | Fatalities reported |
| Bint Jbeil | Bint Jbeil | Continuous Bombardment | High infrastructure damage |
| Zibqin | Tyre | Phosphorus & Artillery Shelling | Use of incendiary munitions |
| Siddiqine | Tyre | Heavy Aerial Bombing | Significant safety risk to civilians |
| Al-Haniya | Tyre | Heavy Artillery | Disruption of residential areas |
In addition to the aforementioned strikes, the town of Siddiqine was hit by powerful bombs delivered via fighter jets. This multifaceted military campaign—utilising aerial, ballistic, and incendiary assets—has compounded the existing humanitarian crisis in Southern Lebanon.
For several days, the border-adjacent communities have faced a relentless barrage, forcing many residents to seek refuge further north. The systematic targeting of these regions has placed the safety of the general population at extreme risk, as the conflict continues to expand beyond traditional military boundaries. International observers remain focused on the potential legal ramifications of using white phosphorus in these populated border sectors.
