Just a day after the 13th national parliamentary elections, the central office of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in Mogbazar appears eerily deserted, a stark contrast to the bustling activity witnessed yesterday, reports BBC Bangla.
During the election day, and well into the night after voting concluded, the Jamaat-e-Islami headquarters was alive with party workers, volunteers, and journalists. Supporters thronged the office, eagerly awaiting the results and chanting slogans, creating an atmosphere of intense political energy.
However, today, the scene is entirely different. As of Friday morning, only a handful of party workers and journalists were present at the headquarters. The office, which had been brimming with activity just 24 hours ago, now exudes silence. Observers describe it as almost “empty,” signalling the party’s adjustment to the election outcome.
Throughout the day yesterday, party officials repeatedly asserted their expectation of forming the next government. Yet, the results clearly indicate that Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has secured a majority and will lead the government, leaving Jamaat-e-Islami unable to realise its hopes.
Despite failing to achieve government formation, this election marks the party’s most successful participation in recent years. Reports suggest that the party has managed to win a record number of seats compared with its previous electoral performances, reflecting a modest gain in parliamentary representation.
The party is expected to release an official statement after the Friday Juma prayers, responding to the election outcome and outlining its position moving forward.
