In Jamalpur-4 (Sarishabari) constituency, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Member of Parliament (MP) candidate Advocate Abdul Awal has visited the grave of a late Awami League leader. The act of paying respect to a rival party leader has stirred discussions in the local political arena.
On Wednesday (October 22), he visited the grave, prayed, and offered dua seeking forgiveness for the departed soul.
According to sources, while campaigning in Aona Union, Advocate Abdul Awal visited the grave of late Advocate Matiar Rahman Talukdar, father of former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Murad Hasan. The late Matiar Rahman Talukdar was a former member of the Awami League Central Executive Committee and had long served as the president of the Jamalpur District Awami League.
The news spread quickly and sparked mixed reactions in local politics. Some consider it a strategic political move, while others see it as a gesture of social courtesy.
Advocate Abdul Awal said, “While on my election campaign route, I came across the grave of the late leader and offered prayers. Advocate Matiar Rahman was my senior, and I worked in his chamber for two to three years. The matter is being taken differently than what it actually is.”
