The Jamaat-e-Islami party has publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the process of announcing the results of Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliamentary Election. The statement was released on the party’s verified Facebook page on Friday, 13 February, at 8:30 a.m.
In their post, the party addressed the nation, saying: “Dear citizens, we sincerely thank you for participating in large numbers and ensuring an overwhelmingly positive and peaceful voting environment. However, we are not satisfied with the process of declaring the election results.”
The statement raised several concerns regarding the transparency and fairness of the electoral process. Jamaat highlighted that in various constituencies, candidates from the 11-party alliance were defeated by narrow margins, which the party described as “suspicious.” The announcement also referenced repeated inconsistencies in unofficial results, reluctance by the Election Commission to publish voter turnout rates promptly, and indications of bias from sections of the administration in favour of one major party.
These issues, according to Jamaat, cast doubt on the integrity and transparency of the result declaration process. The party called on its supporters to remain patient and await formal instructions for organised activities, emphasising that their struggle for justice and the creation of a humane Bangladesh will continue, InshaaAllah.
| Issue Highlighted | Description |
|---|---|
| Narrow and suspicious defeats | 11-party alliance candidates losing by small margins in multiple constituencies |
| Unofficial result inconsistencies | Repeated discrepancies in private announcements of results |
| Voter turnout reporting | Election Commission’s hesitation to publish participation rates |
| Administrative bias | Alleged partiality of some officials towards a major party |
| Supporter guidance | Advising patience and awaiting formal directives for actions |
The party’s statement reflects ongoing debates over electoral transparency in Bangladesh, as well as a demand for accountability in the announcement of parliamentary results. Jamaat’s call for continued vigilance and civic engagement underscores their commitment to what they describe as the principles of justice and a humane society.
With voter participation reportedly high across the nation, Jamaat’s message attempts to balance recognition of peaceful voter behaviour with a firm critique of procedural shortcomings, signalling potential political mobilisation in the coming weeks.
