Jamaat’s Islam and My Islam Are Not the Same: Fazlur Rahman

BNP leader Advocate Fazlur Rahman has stated that the Islam followed by Jamaat and his personal Islam are not the same.

In an interview, he mentioned that he aligns with Sufi believers who spread Islam in the Indian subcontinent. He added that Jamaat is Wahhabi and regards the Prophet in a manner akin to an elder brother. He described Jamaat as being opposed to the true essence of Islam.

Fazlur Rahman further said that without the spiritual aspect, religion is incomplete. He compared the Jamaat chief to his grandfather in age, though the chief is ten years younger, and said, ‘‘If you sit with me, I will see.’’ He noted that the chief’s past activities were akin to scientific socialism and JASAD, where religious belief held little importance. Now, he serves as Jamaat’s chief and a full devotee of religion.

Addressing the Jamaat chief, he said, ‘‘The religion you propagate in the name of Jamaat, what kind of religion is it? Let’s see if you sit with me.’’ He mentioned receiving blessings from Allah, saints, Qutubs, and Dervishes, as well as prayers from Hazrat Shahjalal and Shah Paran.

Fazlur Rahman stated, ‘‘Without Marfat and Tariqat, Islam is incomplete. Jamaat does not acknowledge this. Sharia ensures Kalima, prayer, fasting, Hajj, and Zakat. But one must believe that the Prophet was the final Nabi, the last Prophet of the world. The Quran was revealed upon the Prophet. Jamaat’s Islam is Surah Nurul Islam, and my Islam is centered on Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).’’
