Renowned actress Jaya Ahsan, a celebrated figure in both Bangladeshi and West Bengal cinema, has sparked a vital conversation regarding the pervasive influence of technology on the human spirit. In a recent insightful podcast appearance, the award-winning artiste argued that the mobile phone has become the primary barrier preventing individuals from fostering a meaningful relationship with the natural world and their immediate surroundings.
During the discussion, Jaya elaborated on her personal philosophy regarding digital consumption, particularly during the creative process. She revealed that she consciously avoids using her phone while on a film set, preferring instead to remain present in the moment.
"When we leave our homes, our eyes are immediately glued to our screens," Jaya observed. "We fail to notice the trees, the rhythm of the traffic, or the subtle nuances of human life—like the way a rickshaw puller wipes his brow. If I do not observe these details, if I am not connected to nature and society, how can I possibly portray a character authentically?"
According to Jaya, the act of observing the world is a form of sensory therapy. She believes that by engaging the senses—sight, sound, and smell—artistes can deepen their emotional intelligence. "An actor’s work is about connection. When an artist touches someone, that sensation should convey a genuine feeling. Our surroundings provide the raw materials for our craft."

| Acting Philosophy | Emphasises the "Therapy of Observation" for authentic performance. |
| Natural Connection | Views morning birdsong and fresh air as essential mental therapy. |

| Social Commentary | Critiques the "distraction culture" of mobile phones in public spaces. |
Beyond the realm of acting, Jaya stressed that reconnecting with nature is a cornerstone of mental health. She described the simple pleasures of life—such as the chirping of birds at dawn or the coolness of the morning breeze—as natural healers that the modern world often ignores in favour of digital notifications.
"The mobile phone is the single greatest disruption to our innate connection with the earth," she asserted. "We should make it a habit to put the phone away when it is not strictly necessary. It allows our senses to become more active and receptive."
While the podcast touched upon diverse subjects including her experiences at the Filmfare Awards, her views on cosmetic surgery, and her cherished memories of working in Kolkata, the timing of her message is particularly poignant. Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of her latest film, OCD, which is scheduled to hit cinemas across West Bengal on 6 February. The film's title itself hints at psychological depth, perhaps mirroring her real-life interest in mental clarity and focused living.
