Mata signed a 12-month deal with Sydney last year following his departure from Japanese club Vissel Kobe. Despite being primarily used as a substitute last season, the experienced attacking midfielder brings vast European and international experience to the A-League.
At Melbourne Victory, Mata aims to contribute on and off the pitch, helping the team pursue trophies while also supporting the long-term growth of football in Australia.
With his decorated career, including World Cup glory with Spain in 2010, European Championship in 2012, and club successes in the Champions League and Europa League, Mata is expected to add experience, creativity, and leadership to Melbourne Victory’s squad as they aim for domestic success.
