At least 30 people were injured following an attack after an election rally of Jamaat-e-Islami in Narsingdi Sadar. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at Shekherchar Bus Stand in Meherpara Union. Jamaat leaders alleged that local leaders and activists of Jubo Dal and the Tanti party were involved.
Many of the injured received treatment at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. Farida Gulshanara Kabir, the resident medical officer, stated that 14 victims were treated at the hospital, and 7 of them were sent to Dhaka after initial treatment.
Amjad Hossain, district secretary of Jamaat and candidate for Narsingdi-2 constituency, said that at least 40 people, including Tanti party president Bakhtiar Hossain and Jubo Dal leader Iftikhar Alam, were involved in the attack. He demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.
He added that during the rally, some BNP leaders and activists verbally harassed him on stage. Although local intervention temporarily eased tensions, the attackers returned after the rally with homemade weapons. In addition to the 30 injured, three Jamaat workers remain missing.
Attempts to contact Bakhtiar Hossain were unsuccessful. The local BNP president, Abdur Rashid Mia, denied the allegations and claimed five of their members were seriously injured in a counter-attack. The police have stated that the situation is under investigation.
