Taznunova Jabin, former Joint Convenor of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has alleged that the July movement is being strategically handed over to Jamaat-e-Islami. She made the claims in a lengthy post on her verified Facebook account on Sunday afternoon.
Expressing deep disappointment, Jabin stated that she feels compelled to resign, despite her personal reluctance. “I cannot stomach the idea of leadership being manipulated by those who neither respect this country nor its parliament. My leader should have been from within the movement, carrying the true spirit of July politics,” she wrote. Jabin criticised the NCP’s leadership for negotiating alliances that, in her view, prioritise power over principle.
She pointed out that recent political manoeuvring under the guise of alliances and electoral strategy has deliberately marginalised independent voices. “A process has been orchestrated where nominations were given selectively—125 candidates called for nationwide endorsements, but only 30 were granted seats, effectively preventing independent participation,” she explained.
Jabin elaborated that her resignation stems not solely from the Jamaat alliance but from the manner in which it was executed. “It’s not just a strategic alliance; it’s a carefully staged plan designed to control outcomes. Trust and transparency have been completely undermined,” she said.
She also criticised the internal culture of the NCP, saying, “Many leaders prioritise personal or factional politics over the country’s interest. Real progressive, centrist, and inclusive politics have no place in the party anymore. Those who genuinely believe in NCP’s founding principles have been systematically sidelined.”
Reflecting on the upcoming elections, she stated that she has no intention of contesting independently this cycle. Jabin emphasised that her resignation is motivated by integrity, rather than political defeat. “The process, not just the outcome, has compelled me to step away. My commitment to democratic reform and principled politics remains unwavering,” she affirmed.
She concluded by expressing gratitude to supporters and promising to return all donations personally. Jabin reiterated her commitment to advancing centrist, Bangladesh-focused politics and the ideals of the July movement, despite stepping away from the NCP.
