Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, has expressed profound grief over the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia, Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and former Prime Minister. Joy described her death as “a significant setback in the ongoing efforts to stabilise Bangladesh.”
In a heartfelt post on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday morning (30 December), Joy conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the party faithful.
He wrote, “I extend my deepest sympathies to the family of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. At this critical juncture, when ordinary citizens face insecurity and attempts to destabilise the nation persist, her departure will profoundly impact the country’s progress towards stability.”
Joy further acknowledged Khaleda Zia’s long and tumultuous political career, noting that despite being subjected to numerous political challenges and controversies, she had achieved significant successes and implemented key policies for the country. “Her contributions to nation-building will remain indelible in our collective memory,” he remarked, emphasising that her demise represents a serious blow to the nation’s ongoing efforts to maintain political equilibrium.
He concluded by offering his sincere condolences to Khaleda Zia’s numerous supporters and well-wishers across the country.
