The first birthday memorial of legendary Lalon music singer Farida Parveen since her passing will be held tomorrow, organised by her own music academy, Achin Pakhi Music Academy. The commemorative event is scheduled for Tuesday, 13 January, at 4:00 pm in the main auditorium of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s National Theatre Hall.
The celebration was originally planned for 31 December, coinciding with what would have been Farida Parveen’s 71st birthday. However, the event was postponed due to national mourning following the death of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. A new date was later set to ensure the musical tribute could be held with full respect and attention.
Speaking about the occasion, Farida Parveen’s husband and renowned flautist Gazi Abdul Hakim emphasised that the event is intended to honour and celebrate the singer’s lifelong contributions to Bengali music. The ceremony will feature Farida Akhter, Adviser for Fisheries and Livestock, as the chief guest, with Mahbuba Farzana, Secretary of Information and Broadcasting, and Rezauddin Stalin, Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, attending as special guests. The event will be inaugurated by Dr Mohammad Abdul Majid, Chairman of the Social Development Foundation, while Gazi Abdul Hakim will preside over the programme.
Born on 31 December 1954 in Singra, Natore, Farida Parveen began her professional musical career at the tender age of 14. She joined Rajshahi Radio in 1968 as a recognised artist, performing Nazrul Sangeet, and gradually established her unique identity in patriotic songs and the traditional Lalon repertoire. She received intensive training in Lalon music under the guidance of Sadhak Mokshed Ali Shah, which shaped her distinct style.
