Land Minister Finds Office Empty on Surprise Visit

During a surprise inspection of the Siddhirganj Union Land Office in Narayanganj, State Minister for Land, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, was confronted with a striking display of administrative neglect, observing that none of the responsible officials were present at their posts.

The inspection took place on Wednesday, 4 March, at 9:10 am, when the minister entered the office and found the workspace devoid of key personnel. The unexpected presence of a high-ranking government official created an atmosphere of visible discomfort among the few staff members present. Barrister Kaiser Kamal spent nearly half an hour seated on the office veranda, waiting for the officials to arrive, drawing the attention of local residents and onlookers.

Even after waiting beyond the scheduled time, the minister did not encounter any responsible officers and expressed strong dissatisfaction with the situation. Speaking to journalists, he described the absence of officials as “highly undesirable” and warned that such behaviour undermines the public service mandate of the government.

“Those who neglect their responsibilities or disrupt the delivery of services to the public will face strict administrative measures,” the minister emphasised. He noted that such negligence by field-level officers calls into question the government’s commitment to public welfare and efficiency.

During his visit, Barrister Kaiser Kamal reiterated that the present government, elected by the people, is directly accountable to citizens. “Any form of misconduct, corruption, or dereliction of duty in government offices will not be tolerated,” he stated firmly. He further stressed, “Timeliness and discipline are mandatory in public service institutions. Particularly in critical offices like land offices, citizens must not face harassment or inconvenience. Administration must ensure strict adherence to service protocols.”

Following the surprise inspection, authorities reportedly initiated the process to issue notices to the absent officers, requiring them to provide explanations for their absence. The minister’s strict stance is being viewed as a warning to officials across other government departments. He also announced that similar surprise inspections will continue nationwide to enhance accountability, punctuality, and overall work ethic among government personnel.
