Tension had been prevailing since yesterday around the house of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32 in the capital. After several chases, counter-chases and clashes with law enforcement agencies, the situation has now returned to normal.
On Tuesday (18 November) morning, it was seen that although the protestors were no longer present, members of the law enforcement agencies remained on alert.
According to locals, the recent tension and heightened security measures had caused widespread concern. However, due to the proactive role of the police and other security forces, the situation is now under control, and normal movement has resumed in the area.
Members of the army, police and BGB have cordoned off the house at Dhanmondi 32. No one is being allowed to enter the premises; entry is completely restricted. Security forces are maintaining maximum alert and conducting strict surveillance in the surrounding areas.
Earlier, from Monday morning, agitated crowds began gathering at Dhanmondi 32 intending to demolish the remaining parts of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s house. As the day progressed, the number of people in the area continued to increase.
In the afternoon, when law enforcement forces obstructed them, the crowd failed to demolish the remaining structure. Clashes and chases continued until evening and persisted into the night.
