Legendary Umpire Dicky Bird Passes Away

Yorkshire, UK: One of cricket’s most respected and popular umpires, Harold “Dicky” Bird, has passed away at the age of 92.

The news was confirmed on Tuesday, 23 September, with a statement from Yorkshire, reporting that Dicky Bird died peacefully at his home.

 

Dicky Bird began his professional cricket career in 1956 as a top-order batsman for Yorkshire. Over the years, he became a celebrated figure in the cricketing world, renowned for his fairness and dedication as an umpire.

In addition to his umpiring career, Bird also contributed off the field, serving as President of the Yorkshire Cricket Club in 2014, leaving a lasting legacy both on and off the pitch.
