Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, one of the finest forwards of the modern era, has turned down a staggering €100 million per year offer from the Saudi Pro League in order to remain at Barcelona.
Last season, Lewandowski enjoyed an excellent run of form for the Catalan giants and has expressed his strong desire to continue playing for the club. His agent, Pini Zahavi, confirmed in an interview that Lewandowski feels “comfortable” at Barça and considers it “the best club in the world to play for.” Zahavi added that the striker’s ambition is to renew his contract with Barcelona and fight to win the UEFA Champions League with the team.
The ongoing transfer window has witnessed Saudi clubs make high-profile signings, including:
| Player | From Club | Destination in Saudi Pro League |
| João Félix | Barcelona | Saudi Pro League club |
| Darwin Núñez | Liverpool | Saudi Pro League club |
| Iñigo Martínez | Barcelona | Saudi Pro League club |
| Kingsley Coman | Bayern Munich | Saudi Pro League club |
With only a year left on his contract, Lewandowski was a major target for Saudi clubs. Several Spanish media outlets even reported that the Barcelona board might not have resisted a transfer, given the striker’s age (36) and increasing vulnerability to injuries. The club had also considered reinvesting the funds to secure a younger replacement.
However, Lewandowski’s determination to stay at Barça has effectively closed the door on such possibilities.
It was not only Lewandowski who drew attention in the transfer market. Barcelona’s management also attempted to offload several experienced players in order to ease the club’s financial strain:
Neither player agreed to depart, leaving Barça burdened with a heavy wage bill.
This financial strain created complications when the club attempted to register their new signings:
| New Player | Status |
| Joan García | Goalkeeper (new signing) |
| Marcus Rashford | Forward (loan deal) |
Due to salary cap restrictions, registering these players proved challenging.
Lewandowski’s loyalty to Barcelona has been hailed by supporters, with fans hopeful that his presence and experience will help the club reclaim its dominance in Europe’s elite competitions.
