In a decisive ruling aimed at delivering justice for a brutal crime committed nearly a decade ago, the Sirajganj District and Sessions Judge's Court has sentenced three individuals to life imprisonment for the murder of a seven-year-old schoolboy. The verdict, delivered on Tuesday afternoon, 17 February 2026, concludes a lengthy legal battle surrounding the tragic death of young Tamim Hossain.
The court found that the murder was motivated by a bitter dispute over local dominance and territorial influence in the Ullapara region. Tamim, a young student, had been residing at his maternal grandfather's house in Narsinghapara village to pursue his education. On 10 February 2017, the child went missing from the premises. Despite exhaustive searches by his family and neighbours throughout the night, no trace of him was found.
The following morning, on 11 February, his lifeless body was discovered in a mustard field owned by a local resident. Forensic evidence and initial police reports revealed a harrowing scene: a rope was tightly coiled around the boy's neck, and he had sustained significant blunt-force trauma to the back of his head.
Following the discovery, the victim's father, Soleman Fakir, filed a murder case against unidentified individuals at the Ullapara Model Thana. As the investigation unfolded, police apprehended three primary suspects who eventually provided confessional statements under Section 164. They admitted that the child was targeted as a pawn in an ongoing struggle for local supremacy.
| Defendant Status | Primary Sentence | Financial Penalty | Additional Terms |

| Three Main Convicts | Life Imprisonment | 20,000 BDT each | Default leads to extended term |
| Mannan Akand | 2 Years Imprisonment | 5,000 BDT | Convicted of secondary offences |
| The Victim | Tamim Hossain (Aged 7) | — | Murdered 11 Feb 2017 |
Judge Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, presiding over the case, emphasised the gravity of the crime, noting that the innocence of a child was sacrificed for petty local feuds. Public Prosecutor Shakil Mohammad Shariful Haider (Rafiq Sarkar) expressed satisfaction with the verdict, stating that the life sentences serve as a stern warning against those who resort to violence to establish social dominance.
The court ordered that the 20,000 BDT fine imposed on each of the life-term convicts must be paid, with additional prison time mandated should they default. While the sentencing provides a legal resolution, it serves as a somber reminder of the vulnerabilities of children caught in the crossfire of adult disputes.
