On the first day of Bangladesh’s Great Victory Month, a light procession and lamp-lighting programme were held in Dhaka by Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi, Bangladesh Chhatra Union, and Bangladesh Jubo Union. On Monday (1 December) evening, the procession started from the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and proceeded to Shikha Chironton to pay homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War.
Participants performed various popular songs broadcast from the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the Liberation War and chanted slogans. All attendees were later led in taking an oath.
After paying respects at Shikha Chironton, a brief gathering featured speeches by Bir Muktijoddha Makbul-e-Elahi Mashgul of the joint guerrilla force of NAP-Communist Party and Chhatra Union, former general secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Ruhin Hossain Prince, former assistant general secretary Mihir Ghosh, President of Bangladesh Khetmojur Samiti Dr Fazlur Rahman, Chhatra Union President Mahir Shahriar Reza, and Jubo Union General Secretary Jahangir Alam Nannu. The event was conducted by Udichi General Secretary Amit Ranjan De.
Speakers said that on 16 December 1971, after nine months of armed struggle and the sacrifice of millions, the Pakistani forces were compelled to surrender, establishing an independent Bangladesh. However, even after 54 years of this great victory, efforts continue to distort the history of the Liberation War. Speakers expressed their determination to preserve the spirit of the Liberation War with the patriotic people.
