Liton Das on Leadership, Performance, and Team Morale

Despite Bangladesh winning the three-match T20 series against Pakistan at home, captain Liton Das experienced a period of underwhelming personal performance. Ahead of the Asia Cup, concerns were raised in cricketing circles about his form. Liton has since dispelled those doubts in the Netherlands series, where he scored a highest total of 145 runs and earned the Series Player award.

The third match of the series was washed out due to rain, ensuring Bangladesh a 2-0 series victory. At the subsequent press conference, Liton reflected on the role of a captain: “I enjoy captaincy; that is why I took on this responsibility. Certainly, our team has played good cricket across several consecutive series. My own performance is also important for the team. When a leader fails to perform, the team can suffer a psychological setback.”

He emphasised that consistent leadership performance is crucial for maintaining team morale.

Liton expressed satisfaction with his recent run-scoring, noting the importance of contributing positively to the team: “Everyone in our team is performing well, and I also had a personal challenge—to contribute effectively and perform at my best. I am delighted that I am able to make a positive impact as a member of this team.”

Since assuming captaincy, Liton has enjoyed victories in three consecutive series. Highlighting his experience in Sylhet, where he completed a hat-trick, Liton praised the venue: “We know that among Bangladesh’s international grounds, Sylhet and Chittagong are comparatively batting-friendly venues. The outfield here is excellent. In contrast, at Mirpur, every player, local or overseas, faces a bit more struggle. Naturally, Sylhet becomes an excellent option for batsmen—a truly enjoyable ground. Those of you present here can surely appreciate the atmosphere.”
