Before the T20 series against the Netherlands, the Bangladesh cricket team underwent extensive practice sessions, which many believed would prompt the team to bat first in order to test and prepare their batting line-up. However, despite winning the toss in the first two matches, Bangladesh captain Liton Das opted not to bat first. After the final T20, Liton explained the reasoning behind this decision.
Liton stated: “In international matches, winning by a significant margin shows how much your team has improved. It’s not necessary for every player to bat every day. There will come days when everyone gets a chance to bat, and it’s not that in the Asia Cup or all matches you must always bat. It’s a positive sign that not all our batsmen had to bat in the first two games. Today, many did get the opportunity.”
The captain also emphasised respect for opponents, saying: “No international team should be underestimated; every side is strong. You must give them equal respect, and that is how we approach our cricket. We focus on improving our performance day by day.”
Many had speculated how Bangladesh would approach batting first. In the final match, the toss won by the Netherlands gave Bangladesh the chance to bat first. Unfortunately, the match was interrupted by rain, and Liton reflected on the situation: “Weather is beyond anyone’s control. The team managed to give batting opportunities to several players who hadn’t batted in the last two games. It was good for their experience. Of course, it would have been ideal if our bowlers had bowled fully, but that was beyond our control.”
