Despite Bangladesh’s absence from the current T20 World Cup, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has moved decisively to ensure its elite cricketers remain match-fit and competitive. The board has officially launched the “Odommo Bangladesh T20 Cup 2026,” a high-stakes tri-series featuring three meticulously assembled squads. This initiative serves as a vital bridge in the sporting calendar, providing a platform for national icons and emerging prospects to showcase their skills under the floodlights of Mirpur.
The tournament will be contested by three teams: Dhumketu XI, Durbar XI, and Duranto XI. The BCB has strategically assigned leadership roles to reflect different eras and formats of Bangladeshi cricket. Litton Das, the national T20 captain, will lead Dhumketu XI—a side essentially comprising the core of the World Cup preliminary squad.
The Test skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto, takes the reins of Durbar XI, while the 2020 Under-19 World Cup-winning captain, Akbar Ali, has been entrusted with the leadership of the youthful and explosive Duranto XI. The coaching staff is equally illustrious, featuring legends such as Mohammad Ashraful, Tushar Imran, and Rajin Saleh in assistant roles.
The Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium will host all fixtures. To transform the event into a true spectacle, match days will commence with a vibrant cultural programme at 4:00 PM, followed by the first ball at 6:00 PM. With a total prize pool and match fee fund of 25 million BDT, the intensity on the pitch is expected to be palpable.
