As the holy festival of Eid al-Fitr continues, the capital city’s fuel stations witnessed long queues of vehicles on Wednesday. Motorcycles, private cars, and other vehicles were lined up outside various filling stations, with many drivers reporting that they had been waiting since the early hours of the morning.
At around 10:00 a.m., visits to the Nikunja Model Service Centre and CNG filling station in Khilkhet revealed numerous motorists and car owners waiting for fuel. At that time, the stations had not yet started dispensing fuel.
Arifur Rahman, a sales assistant at the Nikunja station, told reporters, “The fuel delivery has arrived. We will start dispensing shortly.” He reassured that there was no shortage of fuel, adding, “We are providing as much as each customer requests.”
Among those waiting was Nur Uddin Ahmed, who said, “I have been here since early morning. I feel relieved as soon as they start giving fuel.” Station manager Sohel Rana confirmed that fuel was arriving and that dispensing would begin shortly, which it did a few minutes later.
Ahad Ali, another customer, noted, “I received the exact amount I requested, but I had to wait in line for a long time.”
However, the situation varied across the city. At Crescent Automobiles Limited in Mohakhali’s Amtali area, only diesel was available, with other fuel types unavailable. The station remained closed even at 11:00 a.m. Cashier Arif Hossain explained, “We only have diesel at the moment. Petrol will arrive around 3:00 p.m., and distribution will start then.”
In Gulshan, the Service Centre also saw long queues of motorcycles and private vehicles. Saidul Islam, who travelled from Baridhara, stated, “I have been waiting since 5:00 a.m. I collected fuel three days ago and now have to get it again.”
At Eureka Enterprise near Mohakhali Railgate, only CNG was being supplied. Cashier Yasin Hossain explained, “Petrol ran out last night. Fuel delivery is expected this afternoon, and we will start dispensing then.”
Similarly, Trust Filling Station in Bijoy Sarani experienced extended lines, with private cars queuing beyond Jahangir Gate and motorcycles reaching the Prime Minister’s Office main gate. An anonymous staff member at the station confirmed, “There is currently no shortage. We are able to supply fuel according to customer demand.”
| Location | Fuel Type Available | Queue Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Khilkhet Nikunja | Petrol, Diesel, CNG | Long queues | Fuel just arrived, dispensing started late morning |
| Mohakhali Amtali – Crescent Ltd | Diesel only | Moderate queues | Petrol expected at 3:00 p.m. |
| Gulshan Service Centre | Petrol, Diesel | Long queues | Motorcycles & cars waiting |
| Mohakhali Railgate – Eureka | CNG only | Moderate queues | Petrol delivery pending |
| Bijoy Sarani – Trust Station | Petrol, Diesel, CNG | Very long queues | Cars beyond Jahangir Gate, motorcycles to PMO |
The heavy traffic at fuel stations highlights the surge in demand during Eid holidays. While authorities confirm that supply is adequate, the prolonged waiting times continue to test the patience of motorists across the capital.
