The health condition of the eight-year-old girl from Magura, who was the victim of rape, has deteriorated further, with doctors reporting that her brain has become unresponsive.
According to a member of the medical board overseeing her treatment, the child’s Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score – which assesses level of consciousness after a brain injury – has dropped to 3, the lowest possible score, indicating a complete lack of responsiveness.
Her cousin, quoting doctors, confirmed that her condition had worsened.
The victim’s mother has filed a rape case, resulting in the arrest of four individuals: the victim’s brother-in-law, her sister’s father-in-law, sister’s mother-in-law, and sister’s elder brother-in-law. All four suspects have been placed on remand for further investigation.
The child was taken to Magura 250-Bed Hospital in an unconscious state on Thursday at around 11:30 AM by her sister’s mother-in-law. Later that day, she was transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced care and then moved to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) the same night. On Friday night, as her condition worsened, she was placed on life support. By Saturday evening, she was transferred from DMCH to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka, where she remains on life support.
An eight-member medical board, led by the chief surgeon of CMH, has been formed to oversee her treatment. The board includes specialists in surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, plastic surgery, pediatric neurology, anesthesia, pediatric cardiology, pediatric surgery, urology and thoracic surgery.
The child’s prognosis remains critical, with doctors closely monitoring her condition.
