Major Reshuffle in Home Affairs and Security Advisers

The Government of Bangladesh has today implemented a significant reshuffle at the highest levels of its advisory and police administration. According to official sources, these changes have taken immediate effect and are expected to influence key security portfolios, including the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Sources indicate that a notable change is anticipated in the post of Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Lieutenant Colonel (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, who currently holds the position, is expected to be replaced by Dr Khalilur Rahman, formerly the Security Adviser. Following this reshuffle, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury may be reassigned to serve as an Adviser to the Ministry of Agriculture.

Concurrently, Khoda Box Chowdhury, the Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, is also likely to be relieved of his duties. Officials have cited ongoing security challenges, including the high-profile assassination of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson for Inquilab Manch, as influencing the decision.

The police administration is undergoing a major reorganisation as well. In anticipation of the upcoming election and other security challenges, the government is arranging new leadership at the top echelons of the police force. Officials confirmed that the reshuffle aims to enhance operational efficiency and reinforce administrative discipline.

Based on published reports and informed speculation, the likely changes are summarised in the table below:

Position Current Officeholder Probable New Appointment Notes
Adviser, Ministry of Home Affairs Lt. Col. (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury Dr Khalilur Rahman Jahangir Alam Chowdhury may be transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture
Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Khoda Box Chowdhury Relieved Likely to be relieved from duties
Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman Adviser, Ministry of Home Affairs To assume new advisory role

Government sources emphasised that today’s reshuffle is intended to strengthen national security and improve administrative effectiveness. Ensuring stable leadership within the police force, particularly during the sensitive pre-election period, has been identified as a priority.

Analysts suggest that this strategic reshuffle could have far-reaching effects on the country’s security, governance, and electoral preparedness. It is expected to recalibrate administrative balance and establish a new direction for institutional stability. The government has promised to release a comprehensive statement detailing the changes later this afternoon.
