Major Surge in Stock Market, Indexes Rise Significantly

The country’s stock market witnessed a significant surge on Tuesday (17 November). On the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the prices of shares and units of most companies increased, and all market indices saw a rise. Additionally, trading volume also grew.

Similarly, on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), many companies saw their prices increase. However, trading volume on this market decreased slightly. This marks the second consecutive day of rising indices on both markets.

Trading on this day began with an increase in the prices of most shares and units. By the end of the day, this upward trend continued, and all indices ended the trading session with a significant rise.

By the end of the day’s trading, 320 companies’ shares and units increased in price on the DSE, while 38 decreased, and 19 remained unchanged.

Among the companies with good performance or those offering 10% or higher dividends, the shares of 172 companies increased in price. Additionally, 70 mid-level companies also saw their share prices rise. Shares of 78 companies from the ‘Z’ group, which do not provide dividends, saw an increase in price as well.

The DSE’s primary index, DSEX, rose by 71 points to stand at 4,846 points. The two other indices—DSE Shariah Index rose by 17 points to 1,017 points, and the DSE-30 Index increased by 19 points to 1,889 points.

The total trading volume on the DSE was 47.53 billion BDT, up from 34.8 billion BDT in the previous session, marking an increase of 12.74 billion BDT.

On the CSE, the overall index CASPI rose by 157 points, and the total trading volume was 1.11 billion BDT. The previous session saw trading worth 1.4 billion BDT.
