Man arrested for allegedly raping a teenage girl and circulating the video”

In Satkhira, Bangladesh, a 22-year-old college student has been arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl and distributing the footage online. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) apprehended the suspect, identified as Debashish Mol, on Wednesday evening, 28 January, near the Rural Electrification Office under Patkelghata Police Station.

Debashish Mol, a resident of Kultia village in Satkhira Sadar Upazila, is the son of Bholanath Mol and is reportedly an undergraduate student. According to police and court documents, the victim’s father works abroad in Malaysia, leaving the house unoccupied at the time of the crime.

Investigators allege that Debashish took advantage of the absence to sexually assault the teenager. When the victim resisted, she was reportedly bitten and injured. Disturbingly, the assault was secretly filmed, and the suspect later threatened to circulate the video on social media. Authorities state that Debashish allegedly forced the girl into repeated assaults, aided by several accomplices, including Hriday Ghosh, a resident of the same village.

The victim revealed the abuse to her family after discovering that the video had begun circulating online. On 23 January, her mother filed a case at Satkhira Sadar Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the Pornography Control Act. Following medical examinations and the recording of the victim’s testimony in court, RAB-6’s Satkhira camp initiated a targeted investigation that led to Debashish’s arrest.

Debashish was taken into custody from a relative’s residence at approximately 8:00 PM on Wednesday. Sohorab Hossain, Sub-Inspector of Brahmarajpur Police Outpost and the case’s investigating officer, confirmed that the suspect had been handed over to police custody. Preliminary interrogations were conducted, and he is scheduled to be presented in court on Thursday. Police and RAB teams continue to search for the other alleged accomplices.
