In Rajair Upazila of Madaripur district, police have apprehended a man named Moniruzzaman (48) along with a microbus bearing a fake sticker of the Election Commission (EC) and foreign beer.

The arrest took place on Saturday, 2nd August, at around 8:00 a.m. in the South Bidyanandi area of Rajair Upazila.

Moniruzzaman is the son of Abdur Rashid from Rajarchar village, Bandar Khola Union, Shibchar, Madaripur. He was sent to court on Saturday afternoon after being charged under the Narcotics Control Act.

On Saturday morning, officers from Rajair Police Station spotted a microbus on the road in South Bidyanandi bearing a sticker of the Bangladesh Election Commission Secretariat. Suspecting foul play, they stopped and questioned the driver.

Upon conducting a search of the vehicle, police recovered eight bottles of foreign beer from inside. The microbus was seized, and the driver, Moniruzzaman, was arrested and taken to the police station.

Police Statement and Investigation

Authorities believe the use of the government institution’s name and logo in this deceptive manner was intended to mislead the public and potentially facilitate illegal activities. The matter is currently under investigation.

Madaripur Rajair Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Masud Khan stated that a microbus with a counterfeit Election Commission sticker and one individual have been apprehended. During the arrest, narcotics were found in the vehicle.

He added that using the name and logo of the Bangladesh Election Commission to undermine the dignity of a state institution constitutes a serious offence.

A case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act, and the arrested individual was produced before Madaripur District Court on Saturday afternoon. The Rajair Police OC confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
